It’s 2 weeks now since the closure of the NZX tunnel and the massive traffic jams plaguing residents of Crimson and Ria Condos, Taman Putra Damai and Ara Damansara continues. MBPJ’s action to close the tunnel despite a signature campaign by Crimson residents showed the arrogance of the authorities and we are questioning if the authorities are taking action for the sake of taking actions. Rakyat today are struggling to cope with rising prices and the closure of the tunnel added to our burden through increased petrol consumption, higher vehicle maintenance and loss of time.

The actions by MBPJ are proof that the authorities are still very much the old institution. What’s the rationale to close the NZX tunnel when with the recent opening of the FAS tunnel, the traffic problem that used to affect the residents of Taman Emas had disappeared? What is the purpose of a traffic study when after two weeks, there is still no one stationed to record the traffic volumes? Why is MBPJ re-creating a traffic problem to inconvenience the residents? Why is MBPJ not rakyat friendly and take immediate actions to alleviate our sufferings? Borrowing the words of R. Nadeswaran, is MBPJ saying “Semuanya OK”?

Many of us voted for a change in the recent election because we want to see a change for the better. We don’t deserve this insane action by MBPJ. We certainly deserved to be treated better in a new era of openness, transparency and better governance.

The residents of Crimson Condo is organizing a second signature campaign. Let’s continue to call, write and sms to our Exco and elected representatives and
seek their help. Let’s continue to fight this injustice.
