Meeting on Subang Airport Noise

Dear Neighbours
Just to update you on today’s meeting at the Biro Pengaduan Awam (BPA) in Putrajaya which was chaired by its Director (En. Aziz). 4 Ararians were present – Mary, Jasweer, Jeannie and myself. Agencies present were MBSA, Transmile, MBPJ, MAB and MoT.
1. Transmile is mandated to carry out their operations by MAB. MAB gets its approvals from DCA and MBSA. Several times in the discussion this was pointed out to us. Therefore, the real pressure has to be applied to these two parties. Unfortunately, DCA was not present.
2.Transmile informed us that they will be moving many of their operations to KLIA very soon, starting mid-June. However, Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul (MRO) actiivities will increase significantly, despite their departure because more operators are expected to move in.
3. Last Nov, DOE carried out a noise monitoring in various points around Subang airport including the Sri Ara flats and Jln PJU 1A/28. These pts seem to have been selected at random. The report, to be submitted to MBSA for approval, stated that the noise levels were very acceptable. We questioned the validity of their choice of locations as 1A/26 is much nearer to the hangars. We pointed out that since completion of that report noise levels have increased tremendously in 2009.
4. MBSA was not able say what the optimum distance between the hangars and the residential areas shd be. Both MBPJ and MBSA have said that they will look into putting up sound barriers to shield the residents from the noise. No real assurances were given and we’re not too hopeful that they will keep their word on this. The developer was also mentioned in this connection.
5. MAB’s Sr GM Corp Services, Dato’ Mahat Samah gave us an undertaking that they would monitor activities at the hangars for 3 months and revert with a report then. We did not feel confident about the weak assurances he gave us but it’s really MBSA and DCA who need to keep them in line.
6. Transmile were the only ones to ask us what we hoped to get out of the meeting – the others seemed to be only humouring us, and it may actually not be Transmile alone making all the noise but also the executive jets (e.g. from D’Nest) and even MAS who are contributing to the noise.
With the ramping up of MRO activities soon, we are extremely worried that even if the current “noisemakers” are pulled into line, others will come along and make it worse unless major noise reduction measures are put in place. We did not come away with any sense of reassurance, but more dread
about what’s to come.
So there you have it, folks – we need to MAKE OUR OWN NOISE about all this. 4 residents against 10 agency staff certainly doesn’t strengthen our case.
Sleep tight, have a quiet night.
Regards
Philip

DON’T LIKE noise from airports? Then DON’T LIVE near airports/air bases/hangars. What is wrong with you all?
Please share your anguish with people who lived around Subang airport since it was BUILT decades ago. Tell it to people who live near airports in Sepang (KLIA & LCCT), Penang, Senai (Johor), K.Terengganu, Pengkalan Chepa (Kelantan), Bt. Berendam (Melaka), Alor Setar (Kedah), Kuantan (Pahang), Sarawak & Sabah and Royal Air Force bases in Sg. Besi, Kepala Batas (Kedah), Butterworth (S.Perai), Kuantan (Pahang).
ehhh…. need we use sentences such as “What is wrong with you all?” after all, their just comments….
if not mistaken, when AD was developed, Subang airport was actually closed to civilian flights as everyone was herded to KLIA. so ppl bought AD with the promise that Subang Airport is going to be pretty quiet….. until some1 decided to let Firefly to fly from there n perform aircraft maintenance there as well.
cheers!
