Sime Darby Swith, Get Your Energy Saving Lightbulb at 68% Cheaper
Switch! represents the overall concept of Sime Darby’s commitment to energy efficiency, which involves the implementation of energy efficient policies, practice of energy efficiency, and promotion of energy efficiency across the Group. This programme was part of Sime Darby’s corporate social responsibility programme to promote and practise energy efficiency throughout its business operations.Switch! energy initiative was targeted at over 10,000 households in townships developed by the property group whereby each household was encouraged to exchange their old incandescent light bulbs (ordinary light bulbs) for energy-saving (ES) light bulbs.
The Sime Darby townships involved in the Township Energy Efficiency Programme (TEEP) are Subang Jaya, UEP Subang Jaya/USJ Heights, Bandar Bukit Raja, Ara Damansara, Denai Alam, Bukit Jelutong and Putra Heights. Sime Darby is offering 100,000 energy-saving (ES) bulbs for old incandescent (ordinary) bulbs to these households.
Under phase one, Sime Darby will offer 100,000 ES light bulbs for exchange to its township residents where they could purchase a box of eight ES light bulbs at RM50 from the usual retail price of about RM160.
Participants can choose the locations to collect/swap their bulbs when they register. Collection points are located at Sime Darby sales galleries at Ara Damansara, Bandar Bukit Raja, Wisma UEP Subang Jaya or Sime Darby Pavilion in Bukit Jelutong.
For ES lightbulb collection, the participant must
- Bring printout of the registration confirmation sheet
- Bring Malaysian National Identity Card (IC) or MyKad
- Bring one original and one photocopy of any TNB bill from the last 3 months (where the name and address on the TNB bill is the same as the name and address on their IC or MyKad).
- For residents whose IC or MyKad name and address does not match the name and address on their electricity bill (e.g. if they are a tenant in a rented property), then they must also bring one other bill (either water, telephone, mobile or Astro will be accepted) showing proof that they live at that address.
Participants will have 2 weeks to swap their old bulbs with new ES bulbs at the location of their choice after the official launch of the TEEP on 25th July 2009.
When the residents exchange 100,000 ES bulbs, they are helping to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 65,000 tonnes,”

NB : as at 11am on Tuesday, 09Jun09 there are 99,000 bulbs left.

That’s a great move cos energy saving bulbs are so expensive. But the offer comes a little late since I already changed all my bulbs to this sort a year ago.

It’s kind of strange that they need TNB account no. for registration. I don’t think TNB is a co-sponsor as it’s revenue loss for them.
Managed to register a while ago. Looks like this campaign is not popular. There are only 398 households registered today and there are still 96888 bulbs available! They are restricting 1 package for each house so that’s one reason why! Considering each house can have up to 50 lighting points, they should open it up to say 5 packages. Not sure if they will take up my suggestion. Let me ask.
