Had a closer look this morning and there is a big piece of land at the back of polis station likely to be for building a few blocks of apartments for the staff. The land size from front to back is approx 240ft and breadth is approx 130ft. So the land area is 31K sq ft or 3/4 acres. So the 1.1M price tag is definitely for the piece of land + the station.

I would like to put forward an idea for consideration with regard to this topic.

As mentioned, Sime Darby has taken a major step in providing us with pretty decent security infrastructure. It is up to AD residents to ensure that it continues to work and not fail due to lack of commitment and participation.

I do not know what the "Balai Polis Ara Damansara's" stand is but perhaps all the RAs can join together (or even individually RAs take turns) to provide them with back up. For example maybe a Rukun Tetangga like structure where residents work hand in hand with the police to monitor the area. As they mentioned, there are 13,000+ residents and only 6 policemen to take care of the area. Maybe the RAs can help to take up the slack ? I for one will propose this to my RA when we next meet.

Hannah,
You are right. The timing of the CCTV initiative runs too close to the upcoming launch of the very high-end residential units. It is probably meant for existing residents AND future residents!

It does help with the property prices though BUT I have seen too many grand projects being launched, only to be neglected after a couple of months. Let's hope this project is not one of those.

The station is approx 1,900 sq ft. The land is in the region of 2.5 acres. If i remember correctly, Sime Darby is committed to provide 2 or 3 blocks of flats as police quarters which i assume will be built in due course on that piece of land.

The CCTV cost came up to something like RM2.2 million and the cars, building, land and future buildings come up to RM1.8 million.

Sime Darby must be given due credit for taking the initiative and being the first developer to truly take into account the security needs of Ara Damansara and taking appropriate steps to do something about and most importantly to cough up the huge finances required without complaints.

No doubt the cynical among us will comment that it will help promote sales but personally I am very happy with what Sime Darby has done and is still doing to improve the lifestyle of the residents of AD.

The police station itself may look small (my guesstimate under 3000 sqft at the most) but the piece of land on which it was built is at least a quarter acre i.e. approx 4 units of 22x75 (again a guesstimate sodon't quote me word for word). Likely that the tab of RM1.1million took into the consideration the value of the land set aside by sime?

Also, given that it has a network of connections to monitor all the cctvs, its likely that a fair chunk went into footing the cost of these electrical works & cabling.
