Top-notch security in Ara Damansara

Source: NST

KUALA LUMPUR: The 308ha Ara Damansara township will have 24-hour surveillance following the installation of 22 solar-powered closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) and a spanking new police station to serve its 13,000 residents.

The RM2.3 million CCTVs and RM1.1 million police station are part of the Safe City Initiative project by Ara Damansara’s developer, Sime Darby, to create a safer living environment for the community. The new police station was the site where Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein launched the Safe City Initiative yesterday.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar and Sime Darby Property managing director Datuk Tunku Putra Badlishah Tunku Annuar were also present.

The initiative is a joint effort by Sime Darby Property, Royal Malaysian Police, Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation, Selangor government and Ara Damansara Residents’ Association to reduce crime while fostering community spirit.

Hishammuddin was also given a tour of the 0.17 square metre state-of-the art, purpose-built police station where the facilities include an investigation room, a meeting room, a waiting room and a holding yard.

There are 2,490 residential properties and 62 commercial properties in the 10-year-old township.

The CCTVs, installed at the main road junctions, are linked to the Ara Damansara Police Station and the Petaling Jaya Police Station.

The surveillance system is backed by a highly trained security force who will patrol the streets within the township.

There will also be manned guard-houses at each entry point of the area to provide ground monitoring.

Ara Damansara is the first development project under Sime Darby where the Safe City initiatives are implemented.

“manned guard-houses at each entry point..” – mmm, wonder where they are going to be located?

  • Hannah

The guardhouses are already in place in Attila/Alissa, the Semi Ds and Casarina.

Guardhouses for the older phases are still in planning stages mostly because Phase 1, 2 and 3A do not have representation in terms of RAs or RTs at present. It is simple to build the guardhouses but the community involved will have to be responsible to upkeep it and to put it to good use, else it will end up as a white elephant or an eyesore. If there is a need, the staff at Sime Darby Galleria are very helpful and more than willing to assist in requests. Do get in touch with them.

With all the top notch security in Ara Damansara, being a resident in Ara Damansara for over 5 years, my house was burglared last week during broad day light. The incident left behind mental distress for the entire family and we do not feel safe anymore residing here. Having said of all the efforts Sime Darby has taken, unfortunately what we observed was the police patrol to our phase has reduced significantly and wasn’t much of the security effort emphasized for our phase. Further the street light is poor and the area is dark. What can we do to ensure the safety of our family and community in our phase.

which phase are you in? does your area have security arrangement?

    Lee,
Was anything captured on our “fantastic” Ara CCTVs? Sorry, I mean, did the police on watch at that time of your house burglary see anything?

Unfortunately there isn’t any security arrangement being that we do not have any RA in our phase and some residents refused to contribute to the guard fees. Further the fantastic CCTV wasn’t installed at our phase entry point and police is no where to be seen especially after the “surveillance’ system in placed.
