I refer to the letter “Like a bird trapped in a cage” in The Star (Metro, page M8) today.
Obviously, security IS an issue otherwise why bother to initiate this G&G Community in the first place. Think the volunteers in Jalan Datuk Sulaiman area have nothing else better to do than stomp the streets every night after work campaign from house-to-house talk till the cows come home to protect our families and homes?
CCTVs don’t work and hardly a crime prevention measure. So you propose to record everyone 24/7 who enters… and then only find these robbers, thieves, kidnappers, rapists, peeping toms, what-have-you the scumbags of the earth AFTER the crime and violation have taken place, is that it?
These criminals and psychopaths are not stupid. As a matter of fact, they are creative beings with higher IQs than most who plan and execute their every premeditated move better than most in civil society similar to “running a business”, hence hardly get caught in the act and will continue to do so and leave behind a long trail of victims as their trophies.
CCTVs don’t work. Go watch and observe some of the videos on youtube.com e.g Robbery, Taman Maluri, Cheras at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbpj1XOhuGI and related videos. One can hardly see the robbers’ faces be it in the dark or even in broad daylight; with helmets on or baseball caps drawn right down to their eye level, ski-masks, what-have-you. Then expect the police to trace and capture these crooks with these “evidence” is that it?
Damage would have already been done; lost of valuables, shoes and potted plants included. Yes, these can be replaced but what about the lives and the psychological trauma victims go through and have to live and deal with for the rest of their lives, especially victims of rape and kidnapped children? Ever thought about that?
