NZX Tunnel Update: 5 More Days to D-Day…

It’s almost a month now that the Taman Mayang Mas tunnel is closed for repair, in preparation to convert the 2 tunnels into 1 way traffic. I am not trying to be pessimistic but looking at the current progress, I doubt the tunnel will be complete before the school holiday ends, we may need to start our new year in traffic jam.

29122009677Shouldn’t they be testing the safety of the tunnel by now?

29122009672Roads are higher now

29122009673Haven’t fill in the rocks yet

29122009675After a month….

29122009671Probably not more than 5 workers there?

oh my god..until today just only 60% complete “judge from the picture”.. I doubt too the tunnel will be opened for us by 4 Jan 2010..what an empty promise..

I think they don’t do thing seriously if not it won’t take such a long time to repair the tunnel. I guest they are waiting for the residents to protest then they will expedite the work…sigh..

I think the contractor will take the opportunity to ask for extension of time since it was delayed in handing over the site to them on 26th Nov because the barricades were removed by someone! This is not even a repair work, basically filling up the tunnel to have shorter headroom to prevent larger vehicles to cross. So the main scope of works are redo a bigger drain and filling with gravels. And i guess the costs of the tender could be quite ‘fat’ since this is a rush job. So if some other more competent contractor is given the job, they would finish 1 or 2 weeks before contract expiry, of course this also depends on how good or fast the paymaster is paying their claims!!
My opinion is if only smaller cars are using the tunnel, there is no reason to change it to one way traffic. most of the time, the bottleneck is near to the T junction facing the FAS field and LDP. Therefore, i reckon if the road in front of the FAS field is widened to 2 lanes out, then the traffic flow should be smoother. Even short jam is easier to put up with. Jam along LDP is a perenial headache to majority of PJ residents. LDP should have been on elevated for its entire length from Motorola upto after 1Utama!!

hows the tunnel progress?..anyhope for good news on Monday? Elevated LDP proposal sounds good too..there is too much internal traffic on that stretch mentioned by Jameslee to be shared with traffic from LDP especially once the Paradigm complex is completed!

Pass through NZX today. They are still working on the tunnel. Don’t think it’ll be ready for tomorrow
