Accidents are bound to happen in NZX tunnel
As I am driving to work this morning, as usual, the NZX tunnel is congested. The reason is because there is a bottleneck right after when you are out of the tunnel. There were 2 MBPJ traffic Marshall there but the motorist won’t bother, just drive opposite direction and straight into the tunnel. There are even cars doing that, can you imagine?

NZX TUNNEL MBPJ TRAFFIC MARSHALL

MOTORCYCLIST DRIVING OPPOSITE DIRECTION

I saw many cars doing that too. One day surely accident, then only will the driver on the wrong direction will have to pay dearly to learn their stubbornness is expensive. Summons + accident claims, not to mention lots of hassle and lost of use of car. Sometimes I cant figure out what is all these drivers thinking. Is it worth the price for slightly shorter route? One day the police would have nice field day having roadblock there… All cars passing thru on the wrong direction would be summons. The police might be laughing all the way to the bank.
One of the reason they do that is partly because cars coming out of tunnel are blocking the entire road for them to get into Taman Megah Mas housing area and turn back out. They are kinda forced to turn into the tunnel. MBPJ should make one way all the way, not half one way and half 2 way traffic.
Yup I think need few days of chaos for the dust to settle down. It’s difficult make one way on the current Jalan Emas 2. Surely the house owner on that road will object fiercely. I think they shall put up a very clear and noticeable sign just before turning into Jalan Emas 1 that state clearly that no tunnel access thru this road. But I still think alot people still wouldnt bother and would still break the traffic direction la. As we know, Malaysia apa pun boleh lar. LOL. Unless get some traffic police station there for 1 week or 2 to issues summon. Malaysian will only learn when it hurt their pocket.
They should not put barrier also because once the barrier is down, cars can’t make U-turn.
It is very tempting to take the illegal against the traffic shortcut via NZX tunnel. Especially when you are in a rush or emergency. I know it’s not the right thing to do but when you have to spend 20mins on a bumper to bumper traffic, some folks will make an emotional decision.
This happens even when MBPJ officers are there, can you imagine if it is mid night and no one is watching?
It’s not right to go against the traffic but just ask our selves, do we prefer the tunnel to be one way?? Not me!!!
As a resident of Ara Damansara, I totally disagree that MBPJ changed the direction of the tunnels, just because to ease the traffic that affect not more then 50 homes in Taman Emas?? Compared to more then thousands of homes in Ara Damansara.
Some times we can’t make both sides happy, but at least priority must go to the majority, not the minority
I ended up stuck in traffic at least 20 min every time I come back home in the evening, some times traffic piled up even before the FAS tunnel. Even if I pay toll, NKVE is still jam after enter the Tropicana Toll.
Why the traffic is slow after passing the tunnel to Taman Emas?
1. There’s 4 road bump, 2 small (I think these are illegal) and 2 oversized
2. Motorist that turning in after the bridge don’t turn on their signal, this result motorist that going out waiting
Solution?? Bellow are a few suggestions that me and my many Ara Damansara residents.
1. Open the “Ara Damsara – Tropicana Link”, more access road will ease the traffic
2. Change both tunnel to 2 ways, as what I observe all the while, motorist will use their preferred tunnel and ended up both tunnel are not congested
3. Convert the road beside the river to the NZX tunnel(sorry i forgot the name) to one way towards the tunnel and the next road between the link houses to one way exit from the tunnel
4. Expand the road from the NZX tunnel towards the Crimsom Junction to 2 lanes, so that motorist turning in to Crimsom won’t block motorist which are heading to Lembah Subang
5. If MBPJ insist of making both tunnels one way, it’s better the NZX tunnel to be In and FAS tunnel to be out.
6. Last but not least, a flyover that link Ara Damansara and LDP (this will sure solve all the traffic issue, and also increase our property value as well)
I know the comments is bit long but we have suffer enough of the tunnels, link road issue.
Last evening (around 6.15pm), I was pleasantly surprised. Traffic was moving at the FAS tunnel and it took me less than 10mins to go through that stretch, half the normal time. At the T-junction there were 2 MBPJ wardens directing the traffic. This is a temporary solution and I hope MBPJ will continue to station the wardens there until Ara-Tropicana link is opened.
Oh my god, this morning many cars still coming in from Taman Megah using NXZ tunnel. We had no choice but to use the motorcycle lane to drive out NZX tunnel. I think MBPJ really need to do something before any serious accident happen.
Solutions to prevent illegal entry at NZX tunnel…
1. Switch the current lanes for cars and motorcycles ie. allow cars to go out thru the left and motorcycles thru the right.
2. Construct a concrete barrier at the exit side of motorcycle tunnel thereby allowing motorcycles to exit but preventing cars entering illegally. Speed humps is necessary to prevent motorcycles from speeding. With this in place, “stubborn” or “unaware” drivers can still make a safe U-turn out instead of causing traffic jam when 2 head-on cars are caught in the middle of the tunnel.
3. Install a CCTV camera for our Ara Damansara police station to monitor and compound stubborn drivers who break the law. Afterall, with our CCTV network in Ara Damansara already in place, an extra camera will not cost much.
Better solution, make the 1 way the other way, make NZX tunnel 2 ways, I can 100% assure that no cars will do illegal drive through at FAS tunnel.
Actually, those who drove against the traffic may have been innocent drivers. Unless you are staying in the neighbourhood, outsiders may not be awared of the new traffic rule so those who drove through could be visitors. There may be a few cases of traffic offenders too though.
With the wardens at the T-junction, the FAS path is now a breeze. I really don’t have much complaints except the stretch of road at the tunnel which has deteriorated badly due to the heavy traffic. I hope the re-surfacing is done soon.
There will always be 2 sides to a coin. Some people prefer it this way and others prefer it another way. The thing is, MBPJ has made a decision/stand. Fair enough – Taman Megah tunnel out and FAS tunnel 2 ways. Enough has been said about it and enough publicity generated. The road sign is VERY CLEAR on both sides if one bothers to acknowledge it. Any first-timer would be able to SEE the NO-ENTRY sign at the Taman Megah tunnel. Its the regulars who think they can get away with it. These people don’t realise that the other lane is meant for pedestrians and motorcycles only. I met an on-coming car a few days ago (luckily no accident) and have decided to just use the motorcycle lane like everyone else.
So all said and done, its about implementation. I think the summons idea is very good. My 5 cents on this would be to really narrow down the motorcycle lane so cars can’t get through and will be forced to use the right lane. That way cars won’t be able to get in. Accidents will happen (it’ll be a shock but unlikely fatal) and if you break the law (NO ENTRY), you pay the summons and the damages.
Actually, you are committing an offence by driving in the motorcycle lane and, most importantly, you have let people committing the offence get away with it.
Myself, I will continue to stick to my lane as I exit the NZX tunnel and any car in the way will have to reverse. I don’t care how many cars are behind the offending car – all are offenders.
Public apathy is why Malaysia is stuck on the mediocrity page.
Please, jangan narrow the motorcycle lane. It is currently just wide enough for a small car to go through. We need this lane as a backup in case a car is stalled right in the middle of the tunnel or a nasty accident that block the right lane. During peak hours, this lane can also alleviate traffic congestion. I think the current design take these into considerations so let’s not create more inconveniences for the residents.
I think the contractor or the decision made by the planning dept on the usage of the lane made a huge error. They shall swap the motorcycle lane to the other side. So car coming in the wrong direction will not dare to use the normal outgoing lane. Many motorcyclist do not use the current motorcycle lane as the other side is shorter route for them. They shall break the pavement on the current motorcycle lane and built and narrow the other lane or put barrier into the other lane. Either they do this or inform traffic police to be station at the NZX junction. Any cars coming in will be summons. I’m sure the police could collect many summons. Offenders shall be thought a lesson, and the only way is by making them lose their money. This shall be done before any serious accident happens.
