DAMANSARA Idaman residents want a macro traffic impact study done before the Ara Damansara-Tropicana link is open.

Damansara Idaman Owners and Residents Association (Diora) president Wan Annuar Wan Mohd Noor said they had filed an injunction against the developer from opening the road.

“The traffic in Persiaran Tropicana is heavy now so you can imagine how bad it will be when vehicles from Subang and Ara Damansara come into the area after the link is open,” he said.

“All we want is a macro traffic study that says that Persiaran Tropicana can handle the additional traffic,” added Wan Annuar.

He said Damansara Idaman residents also wanted a right turn to Bandar Utama at the Persiaran Tropicana junction.

“If you look at the completed junction, we can only turn left towards Tropicana and Kota Damansara. This is not being fair to us?” he said.

Petaling Jaya city councillor Khairul Anuar Ahmad Zainuddin said the council would issue a notice to the developer to start work within 24 hours, failing which the council would proceed with the construction and bill the developer.

The developer will be given three weeks to complete the job.

Khairul said the developer could go ahead and complete the road because the application for an injunction had not been heard in court.

However, Wan Annuar maintained that while the application was in process, status quo should remain and the road closed.

He said Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim had ordered to open up all the accesses, including Jalan Tanjung to end traffic woes in the area.

Tropicana Residents Assocation chairman Mohamed Shukri Zain clarified that Tropicana residents were not the ones who filed the recent injunction and were not involved in the tussle between Ara Damansara and Damansara Idaman residents.

“We’re not opposing the opening of the road because our earlier injunction was put in to make sure that MBPJ completed the tunnel and that has already been done,” said Shukri.

He said Tropicana residents were unhappy that they had been implicated in the road tussle even though the area where Damansara Idaman and Damansara Lagenda sat on was also generally referred to as Tropicana.

    The real culprits of the traffic problems along persiaran Surian now and in the future are actually the unchecked big projects and development along it. Perhaps Idaman residents should apply court injunction for these projects rather than targetting the ara-tropicana link. Ara damansara might benefit more from the opening of the link as of today’s status, but I believe the link will be equally vital for the residents of the other side in the future. There are a lot of potential in terms of future development in Ara damansara and its surrounding areas.Once Ara is fully developed, they will surely appreciate that there is a link to this area.

    Very true. In fact, we may have more to lose as we expect traffic from Kota Damansara to use this Ara link to reach Subang Jaya/UEP/Shah Alam. Jalan PJU 1A/1 is expected to see a surge of traffic. There may be initial chaos but over time equilibrium will set in. While they bark at us, they forget there is a huge problem just outside their backyard: the massive high density projects along Persiaran.

    Where do we make a right turn if we are coming from AD to go to Bandar Utama? Why didn’t MBPJ ask the developer to do a right turn?

  • notelite

    Study? What study? Ain’t it done already? Delaying tactics?

    Just complete the link, then study all you want.

    By the way, interested to know which direction has more traffic.

    From persiaran into ara or ara into persiaran?

    It should be well over 24 hours…any signs of activity?

    There would definitely be more traffic from ara. What do we want there? shopping malls?

    @notelite
    What year are you in? Using a traffic study based on 2009 for 2010? There has been many other developments since 2009.

    I can not agreed with you this time. I agreed with your earlier suggestion to have traffic study covering for all neighbourhood in Ara Damansara and Tropicana, but that should not stop the opening of this Ara-Tropicana link. As notelite has highlighted, there is a traffic study completed in previous year, might not be the latest but should be representative enough. And i am sure all developments in this neighbourhood must somehow cross-reference to this traffic study prior approval from MBPJ (what caused by the irresponsible developer on what has been promised but never deliver is separate issue here). Hence the link should be open, as planned. If there is any traffic issue after the opening of this link, the authority should review the report and come out with solution base on that review.
    Base on the efficiency of ppl working in this country, there is no way you can acquire an “as-built” traffic study. The link road was put on-hold in 2004(?) with the request to have traffic study? It takes few months to year for the report to be completed, following by carrying out the recommendations, i.e. to widen the tunnel. And it has been dragged till 2009/2010. And now you are saying the traffic study is not representative or can be out-dated and requesting for a new traffic study to be conducted before the opening of this link road? Is it fair? Cause that might take another 5 years for the report and implementation of the recommendation.
    I don’t think we are going any where if this is how we handle things in our life.

    1) This is not about what you or your people from idaman want from this link. You can’t possibly represent the collective voice of the whole residents of the other side of the link. To stop the link to be opened because u dont need anything from it just show that u are selfcentered.

    2) A new connection in between two residential areas is the natural course of ongoing development that also happens everywhere. Not everybody will be happy, some will gain some will lose. But to deny a new road that can otherwise save everybody’s travelling time and cost is just too rediculous.

    2) How can the traffic study done 2009 is considered outdated in 2010? If the study is repeated now in year 2010 and yields the result that I dont like, can I request it to be repeated on year 2011 with the same reason ? This will drag on forever. Furthermore the study involves taxpayers’ money and consumes a lot of times.

    @kenichi77
    You do not stay here,the roads have changed and its a bottle neck at both entries to persiaran.Furthermore, jalan tajung was closed on nov 2009.would that make 2009 a valid traffic study? Until you all can stop Dijaya from building a 4 block condo, 2 block office and 3 blocks of shop/office all along persiaran tropicana, i dont think there’s any point in opening the link. It’ll be too congested by itself.What more adding traffic from Ara.

    @drwhokl
    1) i am only telling you what kind of disaster the link would cause once it opens.
    2)Just like how you are denying development in your area as it will increase traffic, we are denying traffic from your area too.
    3)refer to top

    I think the link would be feasible only if they construct ramps and stop the developments along the stretch.sigh.

  • patek

    Everyone should stop talking rubbish, act foolish and read the report prepared by the consultants. Ask MBPJ who is supportive of opening the link for the report or ask them to make it public for everyone to see. If Ara could object to all the developments to preserve their ‘tranquility’ I am sure residents on the other side are entitled to do so as well. Everyone is selfish in their own way but if the traffic study says ok we open if if doesn’t say ok we don’t. Period.

  • leeyk

    What can we say if people choose to restrict their viewing angles to only a few degrees? They don’t want the link to open and yet they want a right turn towards the tunnel. Can’t they see the BIG U-turn sign in front of Bangunan Lien Hoe?

    It’s a waste of our time talking to bigots.

  • notelite

    yes.

    it will be very interesting to note that if one day, persiaran tropicana is so congested until traffic backs up all the way up to the idaman guard house, would they be thankful if there is a right turn they could make to exit the area???????

    think of it ..

  • patek

    I think think but cannot understand what you guys are getting at. But dont you think that its fair to ask for the right turn at the junction from Jalan PJU 1A/1 into Persiaran Tropicana? Even the road coming out of Tropicana has a left turn and a right turn where in fact it is serving only one development. I dont understand why the link and Jalan PJU 1A/1 which is supposed to be a main road for everybody cannot have a right turn to Bandar Utama.

  • kenichi77

    @patek
    To have another traffic light (for right turn) in such short distance with Tropicana (&golf club) traffic light is just impossible (physically not possible because of the short distance) even though i would like to have that as well.

  • Objecting to further Development (constructing more buildings) and opening up more roads are totally different matters all together. The more roads being opened up, the more dispersed the traffic is and less congested. You will be surprised to find out later that there may be more cars coming from Persiaran Tropicana than vice versa because of the “short cut” to Subang and Shah Alam. So folks, don’t be selfish. In response to Dijaya’s plan to build more condos etc. The residents from Tropicana/Idaman/Lagenda should send in your protest. Residents from Ara Damansara can also render our support if required. Hope this will make sense to those who are still opposing the link. As for the right turn to the tunnel, I am all for it as it helps to disperse traffic.

  • patek

    Ara residents should take the lead to organize inter RA discussion for the good of all communities. MBPJ can moderate

  • llmmyy

    Lets face the fact that any developed housing area bounds to hv traffic congestion problems. Be it more or lesser. Be realistic and get on with life. There are people who choose to hv a stress free lifestyle by moving to more secluded area. U hv a choice!

  • ngyy

    What’s happening to the link now? I thought the developer is given 24 hours to start work & 3 wks to complete? Anyone with updates?

  • leeyk

    In the meeting with our councilor last Fri, he told us if the developer does not start work, MBPJ will take over. The surfacing is expected to take a few weeks and in view of the Raya holidays, the target date of completion is end September.

    We will need to give the councilor a call on his “promise”.
