The condition of the road has deteriorated badly. The heavy traffic together with the rain and heavy trucks has made this stretch like a runway bombarded by fighter jets. Navigating this stretch is like walking in a mine field avoiding casualty to your absorbers and the mods to your lovely car.

Our vehicles had suffered enough, we can’t be crossing that bumpy road everyday and do nothing about it!

So it is time for us to do our part! Especially for those who use the road daily, this is the least you can do.

We will be having 2 lorries of sands and stones to fill up the pot holes for a smoother ride. This is a very short term exercise as we wait for MBPJ to inch through their web of procedures before the award to the contractor.

We are very pleased the new management of Ara Damansara Petronas Station has come forward and be our main sponsor for this event. They will provide T-shirts and breakfast! We like to thank Cik Farah for her wonderful support!

As this is a self-funded event, we like to appeal for some donations to pay for the expenses. We hope we can count on your kind generosity. Do look out for the committee members with a donation box at the site on the day itself.

T-shirts will be given out to the first 80 so do come early if you are not to be disappointed. Breakfast will be provided at Petronas Station so please adjourn there after the event.

The management of Ara Damansara Petronas Station has a full day of activities lined up (including lunch) so please stay and participate in the activities.

In conjunction with EARTH DAY, they have a campaign for a greener environment so do bring any recyclable goods from your home.

30th June 2010 – We launched a Signature Campaign to Against the New Development.

6th August 2010 – Ara Damansara Action Group came out with a formal presentation to MBPJ. Mr. Derek Fernandez, so call the “lawyer for residents” was present.

15th October 2010 – Ara Damansara Action Group submitted a proposal to MBPJ after the 2nd dialogue on what the residents want in order for the new development to continue.

6th November 2010 – MBPJ Councillor Tiew Way Keng chaired a meeting, Subang MP Sivarasa Rasiah’s aide Peter Chong , private Secretary to YB R Sivarasa, who was also present at the hearings, said the hijacked land was a state government issue and he suggested that residents file a complaint with the Special Select Committee on Competence, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat). Tiew said the applications for the projects would be tabled at the One-Stop Centre committee meeting on Nov 15.

22nd December 2010 – Another full board meeting held by MBPJ.  We were told by MBPJ internal sources that  OSC had approved the projects despite all the news and protests by the residents.

9th January 2011 – Since MBPJ had failed us. We sent a mail to YB Teresa Kok who in turn “pushed” us back to MBPJ Councillor Tiew Way Keng.

13th January 2011 – MBPJ organized another dialogue with the developer chaired by councillor, Mr. Derek Fernandez. MP YB Sivarasa also attended.

3rd March 2011 - It is confirmed that Borang C has been issued to developer with a plot ration of 1:3.9, YB Mohd Nasir is aware of it.

6th Match 2011 – I venged my frustration to PR.

13th March – A reply from Peter Chong, saying that “However some individuals in the Planning Dept  caused the Borang C to be issued.”

We expected a crowd but the turnout today was totally beyond our imaginations. Close to 150 residents showed up equipped with wheel barrows, buckets, spades and changkuls. The crowd comprised of both young and old, men and ladies with good representations from the various phases of Ara Damansara: Attillia/Alissia, Casarina, Berkeley, Winchester, Palermo, Ara Vista and even residents from Crimson Condominium. I am sure there are many more from other phases as well as from other neighbourhoods too.

Today’s event, a success story itself, has a message for the party who put up the court injunction as well as for the father and son team. This link is here to stay and we will fight to keep it open. This is a public road for the convenience of all residents living on both sides of the link and no one has the right to prevent it from opening because of their very selfish reasons.

We like to express our appreciation to all who worked very hard today. Many helped out in various ways: shovel the earth, filling the buckets, carting the wheel barrows; filling the trenches; draining the water, leveling the surface; directing the traffic, supervising the works etc etc. You have just delivered a great community service today! We also like to thank the rest who came to provide moral support. Your presence are equally important demonstrating to the world that we have solid support from the community.

Now that we have made this stretch a safer place, we look forward to its early completion. We don’t expect any more surprises but we are always ready to respond in the event there is one.

Once again, thank you everyone for the wonderful response to this Gotong Royong call.

Dear Ara Damansarians,

We are shocked and upset why anyone initiated such an act to dig two trenches across this almost complete stretch of road linking Ara Damansara with Tropicana. It is an idiotic act putting all road users in jeopardy. As street lightings has not been turned on yet and there are no warning signs, some motorists have suffered damages to their cars and at least one motor-cyclist had injuries when his motor-bike fell while crossing it.

As responsible citizens and being good neighbours, we want to ensure there are no further injuries or damages to our vehicles. Therefore, this is a call to all Ara Damansarians as well as residents of surrounding neighbourhoods to come forward to participate in a gotong-royong exercise to re-fill the trench and level the road again.

If you are a user of this stretch, please come and offer your labour. Even if you do not use this stretch, please come and lend your moral support. For those who are very kind, you may want to bring some cold drinks to share.

If you plan to participate in this exercise, we need you to bring along some tools (spade, changkul, buckets) plus rocks. Look around your house and playgrounds and I am sure you will find many small rocks and stones lying around. Collect them in a bucket and bring them to fill up the trenches. We will place the bigger rocks at the bottom with the smaller ones on top. We will then complete the surfacing with the pile of gravel at the site.

As the work is expected to be dusty, please bring along some face masks, some drinking water and some towels.

There will not be a single leader for this gotong-royong exercise. Whoever arrives first can start and the rest of us can join in. Should there be rain, we will postpone the exercise to Sunday evening.

We are proud to be residents of Ara Damansara and I am sure we can count on your support to make our neighbourhood a safe place to live in.

Not all enclaves/RAs within Ara Damansara were represented yesterday due to a variety of reasons. It is hoped that this article will reach as many people as possible for input, participation and contributions of ideas and sponsorships. Do help to spread the news. The proposed date for this event is Saturday, 01May10 and the venue will be the big park facing the balai polis.

The first meeting of the Organising Committee for this event is scheduled for Monday, 25Jan10. It would be appreciated that ideas and intended participation reach the Organising Committee via this website before that date.

It seems to me that the Menteri Besar of Selangor, Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ibrahim orders are unclear to the general public. In the previous article, the excuse they gave was they did not have enough fund to connect that 50 meter road?

Since 2007, Earth Hour has gained worldwide support for positive action against global warming. It all began with 2.2 million people in one city using their light switches to have their say. By March 2009, hundreds of millions of people in over 4,000 cities in 88 countries officially switched off to vote for Earth.

This monumental swell of support for the environment has been four years in the making. And it’s all building towards one decisive moment in history – the Copenhagen climate summit, where world leaders will meet to discuss new ways of dealing with climate change.

Every single person who took part in Earth Hour this year helped form a mandate to influence the climate summit. And as people continue to show their support by voting for Earth in the lead up to Copenhagen, the mandate will grow even stronger.
